Manchester City Football Club, known simply as "Manchester City", is nicknamed "Blue Moon" and its slogan is Superbia in Proelio, meaning "Pride in Battle"; Located in Manchester, United Kingdom, formerly known as "West Gorton Saint Marks" (West Gorton Saint Marks) was founded in 1880, renamed Ardwick AFC in 1887, and Manchester City Football Club was officially established in 1894.

In 2008, Manchester City was bought by an Arab consortium from the Middle East and won the 2010-11 FA Cup, becoming Manchester City's first trophy in 35 years. In 2011-12, Manchester City won the Premier League title for the first time, returning to the English top flight for the first time in 44 years. In 2013-14, Manchester City won the English Premier League for the second time and the fourth top-flight title in the club's history. In February 2016, Manchester City announced that Guardiola would become the team's manager from the 2016/17 season. On 25 February 2018, they won the 2017/18 League Cup. On 6 August 2018, Manchester City defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Wembley Stadium to win the Community Shield for the first time in six years.

On February 25, 2019, the 2018-19 English League Cup final was contested at Wembley Stadium, and Manchester City won the League Cup for the sixth time by beating Chelsea 4-3 on penalties. On 12 May, Manchester City defended their Premier League title.
